Stumpers are posed and followed by brief discussions that derive their tickling, teasing quality from a common reliance on the fact that things are not always what they seem--not when the general principles of science are in question. Many experiments are included and the author's sense of dramatic visual effects is always in evidence, as it was in her What Makes It Go? (1959) and others. The selection of questions and their arrangement is eclectic and make for the sort of reading that is educational/recreational and useful to teachers, too, as a recommendation for independent reading and to mine for question and experiment ideas.
