Dittany Henbit (The Grub-and-Stakers Move a Mountain), newly married to Western-romance writer Osbert Monk, is again involved in a local murder case--as Craig takes us on an achingly arch return visit to Lobelia Falls, Ontario. This time stalwart Sergeant MacVicar is investigating the killing of retired, nebbishy Peregrine Fairfield, newly appointed curator of the tiny museum being installed in town by the Grub and Stakers Garden and Rowing Club. Who threw Peregrine from the museum's roof? Well, the key to the motive lies in a box of silk squares found in Peregrine's attic (and much coveted by his virago of a widow). So Osbert and Dittany eventually sort out the puzzle--despite such red herrings as the arrival of Peregrine's old associates Frederic Churtle and Miss Hunding Paffnagel. Silly names, silly chatter, weak detection: only for those who doted on the previous Grub-and-Stakers installments.
