The westward drive focus was shifting; the people braving the tough overland route were driving their cattle to new range and more interested in good pasture land and homesteads than in the gamble of mines. But there was still peril from marauders and bushwhackers, and stagecoaches were still attacked. From Utah to Idaho, the Stanleys were making their move and little bargained on finding themselves in the midst of violence involving gang warfare and the double dealing of Canby, a highly respectable mining engineer. There's a bit of romance here, too, which scarcely stalls the pace of first rate western adventure.
