SANDY: The Auto-biography of a Star

He's been rubbed by Jackie O, petted by Anne Bancroft, and photographed by Richard Avedon. Sandy is the shaggy star of Annie, boffo on Broadway and beneficiary of all the top-performer perks, including an understudy named Arf and this puffy confection. Born of an airedale mother and (presumably) part-wolfhound father, he had a rocky time of it for a while until rescued from the pound by Bill Berloni, carpenter/actor in the summer-stock version. Then the spotlight switches to rehearsals, a pre-opening accident, Washington tryouts (he's White House trained), and new tricks in the Big Apple. Between that long run on Broadway and runs in the park, he may have found a gravy train but this resembles the canned variety--moist and extended with filler--even ff the photos steal the show.
