A well told story with a comfortable kind of excitement that should tempt any youngster with the creative instinct. Set in contemporary Sweden, it follows the adventures of 12 year old Erik who lives in a small coast town and who one day meets old Gunnar Erikson, a fisherman who has recently come to live in an isolated house. Rather hesitantly Erik makes friends with him, casually tells him he wants to win a prize in the photographic contest for the Midsummer Eve Festival and is surprised when Gunnar later shows him a complete darkroom in his hut. The mystery of Gunnar's identity and the new scope Erik finds in photography are coupled with family doings, outings and so forth, to make a satisfying story.
