This gifted team, whose White Snow, Bright Snow won a Caldecott award in 1948, give us this season an artistic, sensitive picture book which manages to avoid being just another day on a farm book. The various phases round the clock are suggested in the nuances of coloring in Duvoisin's full page illustrations, -- pink of dawn across the fields as the cook crows, brilliant white heat of noonday sun, threatening black clouds before a summer thunder storm. Text and pictures are perfectly integrated to create an atmosphere of pastoral simplicity and drowsy summer activity.
