HOW LITTLE LORI VISITED TIMES SQUARE

Almost saved by Sendak. This easily read search for Times Square is long on appealing nonsense and perhaps too long on particular locale to have a market outside of Manhattan. Lori misses Times Square when he aims for it on a subway. He switches to a bus -- and misses it. He's put out of a taxi for lack of funds. All this is real and quite possible as any New York parent with a happy wanderer knows. However, he goes on to take a boat and a helicopter and nothing further is said about money. These follow so closely on the taxi incident that small, logical types who have yet to see Lori's more loony attempts will probably jar loose at this point. Winding up at Macy's, Lori is lucky enough to find and board a passing turtle and nothing has been heard from them since. The story and the scene makes it a rather IN book for those outside NYC limits.
