by Andre Gide ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 19, 1951
During the period when Andre Gide was writing his well-known novel, The Counterfeiters, which is here reprinted, he kept a special notebook in which he recorded in detail the progress of that novel, and the artistic problems which arose in its writing. That notebook is now translated into English for the first time for publication with the novel. Though in journal form, it is quite distinct from his Journals and should be considered in the light of its dedication; ""I give these notes and exercises to those interested in technique"". To just this group, it will prove fascinating, as well as to Gidelovers in general. Otherwise it is not of wide general interest.
