**The techniques and psychological processes involved in the phenomenon of ""brainwashing"" are elucidated brilliantly in this absorbing account of ""A Personal Experience of Brainwashing"". The writer spent fifteen years in China as a university professor. He saw the rise of the Communists, was eventually subjected to their ""brainwashing"" techniques and finally expelled from the country. His book is divided into three parts, Technique and Psychology, Trial and Expulsion, and Cause and Effect--The Present Situation. The story of the author's ordeal is told sensitively, and without malice toward his persecutors. The most significant thing about the book, however, is the descriptive information and the careful analysis provided in connection with the Chinese Communists' methods of persuasion directed at an entire populace. Diabolical imitation, adaptation, exploitation and perversion of religious ideals, experiences and methods of education are involved in their subtle, all-embracing techniques. Recommended as one of the best books dealing with the present situation in China and with the subject of ""brainwashing"" in general. Imprimatur.
