Customized down to the $26.50 shorts he performed tirelessly without, the ultimate in crass, ugly macho plus sexual. dynamism, Charles Revson left behind an empire in cosmetics and another in pharmaceuticals (which he wished carried his name), assorted ex-wives, children he never knew, ladies of one evening, and the third largest yacht in the world; it had Gucci bingo prizes. Up from poverty nothing, he formed the Revlon firm at the age of 25 and developed it with single-minded passion: he had great marketing skills, his products were creative with a touch of class, and he knew how to make women look their best. He was a ""lousy boss""--in fact a killer (heart attacks, crack-ups) but he took very good care of himself until he came up against the one disease where neither health nor diet mattered. A lonely man, a morose man, he would say ""Why is my life so lousy?"" No doubt because in terms of human equations, he was. But then he's fantastically good copy--perhaps the best worst copy in the world, a legend that won't chip.
