ART TREASURES FOR AMERICA

The publication of this anthology of 187 reproductions of paintings and sculpture in the Samuel H. Eress collection coincides with the opening of an exhibition in Washington, D.C., which will present, in addition to the National Gallery's Kress Collection, a selection from all of the regional-gallery collections which have been distributed to 18 cities and many colleges and universities over the past 20 years. An Introduction, explaining the background and development of the Kress Foundation, is written here by Guy Emerson, Art Director of the Foundation. John Walker, Director of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. has written a brief section about the Kress Collection there. The text by Mr. Seymour, Professor of Art History at Vale, beautifully written and highly informative, places these representative works in a critical-historical framework of European art extending from the fourteenth to the middle of the nineteenth century. 100 of these beautiful reproductions are in full color. An ideal gift for students and enthusiasts of art.
