ZOO WHERE ARE YOU?

The strength of this book lies in Caldecott Model winner Keats' color swirled illustrations. The story provides some nights scenes that enable the artist to present some effective work. The book follows Josh, a little boy who sets out to collect animals for a projected zoo. He always returns with junk instead -- and so it is finally a junk zoo. His day and night trips are spurred by the near fantasy animals he never manages to bag. There is some recognition value here for the impetuous collector but it is the sort of story that can exist only in conjunction with these particular pictures.
