A Soho-hum account of young Katie who starts out in London working in the cloak-room of a jazz club, as did the author, so that one suspects that this is not much more than the tinny soundtrack of her own experience. Well Katie falls for Dominic Beauchamp, who for some reason she finds irresistible, whether in his everyday levis or all dressed up in lilac tweed trousers and a black leather tie. She loses her accomodations and her job because of Dominic, witnesses his doubtful ways of making a fast quid from scrounging to gambling to outright robbery, and finally is abandoned by him.... Someone here says ""I wouldn't care to have those scruffy beatniks chez moi."" Other people may feel that way if only because they're not very interesting.
