Pat Carroll, an American girl alone in England, meets Alan Glentower whom she rescues on the road, later agrees to let him show her Wales after her call on the mother of a dead fiance in a small Welsh village. Hoping to leave dour Mrs. Trefoile after a day, she finds herself in the hands of a malevolant madwoman, is locked up and brutalized. Only the message which finally gets through- to Glentower- alerts the search which enables him to find and free her... Baleful and unnerving, this should assure an equally captive feminine readership.
