On her return to high school in the fall, her renewed sense of confidence gave Sue Morgan the feeling that this would be the year. Distant admiration and envy would be a thing of the past, for this time Sue was determined to become a member of the elite Popular Crowd. The road to acceptance was not too difficult for all of the Crowd admired Sue's brother Gary, All Star football player for Ohio State, especially Pete, the local football hero and most eligible member of the Popular Crowd. Cashing in on this wedge, the miracle of Sue's membership and romance with Pete becomes a reality. How strange then that disturbing little doubts began to crop up. Doubts about losing old friends and cultivated interests, doubts about her waning scholastic achievements, but most serious of all moral doubts engendered by her cool realization of what was expected of a girl in the Popular Crowd. How Sue comes to grips with her values and ultimately reaches a decision, makes for provocative reading, provided one can recognize the starkly black and white character of the picture presented.
