APPLEBY CAPPLE

Strenuous and Lightly-packed nonsense resulting from a wild and furious scramble to tell a story which is funny to begin with. Using a rough and tumble stream of consciousness method, the author tells the story of Appleby Capple and his search for a Zebra butterfly for Cousin Clement's birthday. It is fortunate that Zebra begins with a Z because each chapter bristles with alliteration based on a letter of the alphabet, and in the last chapter the caterpillar which Appleby met (in chapter 3 of course) turns out to be a beautiful Zebra butterfly, and the adventure ends happily. Each chapter is introduced by a bouncy little rhyme. Children who revolt at nonsense may be enticed into the fun of the thing by the alphabet tomfoolery.
