GOGO'S CAR BREAKS DOWN

Gogo is a clown and (still in costume) is on the way to visit his mother when he hears strange noises from under the hood and has to pull off the road. But at last a nice policeman sends a tow truck, and back at the garage the mechanics fiddle and tap about and discover that Gogo's spark plugs need cleaning. Except for such words as winch, ignition, and accelerator, Rockwell's text reads like a school primer, and she doesn't explain the technical words or give any basic idea of how cars work. There is of course that opportunity to watch the mechanics poking about, plus some obvious virtues--the nice policeman is black, one of the two mechanics female; and it's all done in bright circus colors to cover up the utilitarian design.
