THROUGH THE MAGIC MIRROR

Toby's journey through the looking glass, which he enters in a moment of boredom at home, exposes him to a number of wonders; but they are all just passing sights, ticked off in a manner that could reduce the wildest dreams to an uninspired silly session. ""An invisible man passed by"" (you see only his clothes, hat, and briefcase), an oversized dog leads a man on a leash, mice chase a cat, choirboys float in the sky and at last the animals emerge from a zoo billboard and chase Toby. . . till he steps back through the mirror, and home for supper. Through all the derivative surreal scenes Toby is merely a bemused observer of gratuitous dislocation; he's relieved to be home again, but otherwise not affected. And if he's not, who will be?
