RIVER'S END and Other Stories

A collection of eight short stories, some of which, along with the title story, previously appeared in Esquire. All are richly conceived in myth and haunting, brooding Celtic image:- River's Edge, Unto Echo, Not Isaac, The Turning Page, concerned with children on the hazy edge of sense, halting yet anxious, thrust into experience, of themselves, of nature; The Upper Room, No Fatted Colf, The Mon crats, summon from deep, smoldering recesses, where decision is naturalistically mingled with pagan fatalism, a tenuous realization of self. All of the stories, sensually wrought, full of a lavish counterpoint of mind and matter, sound primitive depths with a sensibility essentially poetic. For some, an excessively intense turbulence.
