by April Koral ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 15, 1989
An excellent introduction to the greenhouse effect: the causes, suggested solutions, and implications for the planet. Koral concisely explains how contemporary life-styles are causing changes in the atmosphere as we burn more fossil fuels, use air conditioners and aerosol cans, make and dispose of plastics containing CFC's (chlorofluorocarbons), and destroy forests. She describes what will happen if the greenhouse effect continues and global temperatures rise even a few degrees: heat waves, droughts, floods, crop failures, etc. The full-color graphics and many color photos here are well chosen, though occasionally the photos are muddy or dark. Koral includes timely information from the June 1988 World Conference on the Changing Atmosphere and the November 1988 conference on global warming, plus four simple experiments. A welcome, readable book on an important environmental topic. Index.
