TREASURES LONG HIDDEN

Chrisman won the Newbery with his Shen of the Sea and his hand has not lost its cunning. He is able to retell his Chinese folk tales without sacrifice of the Oriental quality and yet with a greater simplicity and directness than is frequently the case. These sixteen stories have a fable- folk feel, and are abounding in the very special sort of humor characteristic of the Chinese.
