. . . don't wear shoes, particularly the ones who drifted into a Jesus freak commune outside LA. Like Susan Haynes, said to have disappeared for six days, unmanageable since her teens, partly because of her mother and, it would seem, stepfather. Others don't end up--end is the operative word--any better: the young man she'd known just out of prison; a de-programmer like that other real one paid to put together the heads of these runaway kids. Jacob Asch gets a line, a straight line, on the proceedings--they're not shrill, but competent enough.
