LET'S IMAGINE SOUNDS

The third of the Imagination Books launched by Let's Imagine Being Places (1961, p.326 J-134) and Let's Imagine Thinking Up Things (1961, p.534 J-184), this invites children to distinguish sounds and relate them to appropriate objects. Bang: -- brings to mind a balloon bursting, a firecracker going off, a bat hitting a baseball, etc. Zoom: -- recalls an arrow shot through the air, a car going very fast, a skier going down a slope. Boom! Plop! Tingle! and Click! are the other teasers used. A considerably less satisfying experiment than the last, this demands a fine line of auditory discrimination, uncommon to most children of this age. And those who are enraptured will surely not be satisfied with imagination alone. Mothers be warned. Your furniture and china may be led to the slaughter in the interests of uncovering a hidden click, bang or boom.
