by Audrey Wood ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 1, 1990
Poor lad--his mother calls him ""Honeycakes"" in public; his father dresses like a clown; and both can be depended on to embarrass him by telling him to walk like a chicken or calling attention to his odd bellybutton when they go to the movies. Still, he does enjoy their fond attention. If only they were normal--or if only everyone else's parents were weird! Nonetheless, they're his parents. The constantly mortified boy blushes amid a jumble of bright colors and laughing bystanders in Wood's zany illustrations. A quirky, mildly entertaining look at a common feeling that is most intense at the junior-high age--rather than at that of the target audience.
