by Augusts Stevenson ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
For third and fourth graders -- this makes an excellent addition to a popular series introducing American heroes through stories of their boyhoods. A good background picture of pioneer home life in the fortunes of the Houston family in Tennessee, of years spent with the Cherokee Indians, of courage, good sportsmanship, patriotism. Nine tenths of the book deal with these boyhood years; the transition to manhood is abrupt and out of key with the balance of the book.
