LABRADOR NURSE

A nursing sister who spent two years in Labrador with the Grenfell Mission relates her experiences in serving the fishermen and their families at Mutton Bay. Through her warm recollections we get to know the people of the village, the kind of hazardous existence they wring from the sea, their beliefs, their isolation, their times of gaiety. The author's first trip was in 1928; in 1942, called to serve again when the base at Mutton Bay would have to be closed unless she could run it, she returned to a village in which life had become a little easier but in which the general tenor was the same. A homely telling, centered about the calls for sickness and baby-bringing, with a religious spirit of dedicated service.
