Another book of poetry by the well-known poet, critic, anthologist. The title derives from ""We are one part love and nine parts bitter thought"" which is the key to this volume. Her poetry is graceful yet with strength and significance, modern yet lyrical, a little disenchanted, a little acrid. The first section contains poems on war, on unemployment, on the world of capitalism, poverty, munitions. The second section is a miscellany, with a nice cycle of poems on animals. The third is love poetry. Unusual variety in form as well as content, a balance of the cerebral and the emotional, and some really lovely writing.
