CHESTER JONES

Magic all around-- a magic rug, a dinosaur who grows out of the soil, magic fertilizer, a professor who produces fog, and a captain with supernatural powers-- adds up to too much to take all at once. Chester Jones, an ordinary lad, riding nonchalantly through town on his dinosaur, conjures up a comical picture. But the hodge-podge of adventures heaped on top of each other are narrated with equal emphasis which becomes tiresome. By the author of The Secret of Saturday Cove (1961, p. 13, J-13), she swings over to fantasy with too little restraint.
