by Beaumont & Nancy Newhall ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 20, 1958
Beaumont Newhall, Curator of George Eastman House and Photography Editor of Art in America and his wife, also a curator and editor of national reputation, join here in this study of famous photographers and their works. Containing the works of sixteen men, the book is arranged chronologically, thereby not only stressing the differences between the various artists discussed, but allowing some perspective on the historical and technical developments in the field. Also included are brief but comprehensive biographical sketches including hitherto unpublished material, analyses, and bibliographies. A discreet book, which will appeal largely to those professionally interested in photography. But the price and lack of sensationalism will probably discourage the layman.
