MIRACLE IN THE RAIN

A fragile tale of loneliness, hope, despair, faith which culminates in a little miracle. A young girl, unnoticed and unnoticing, is tied to a grieving, waiting mother, a job of no importance, and is picked up by a young private in the rain. She is awakened to awareness of companionship and laughter, and when he is sent overseas, he still colors her life, though she never hears from him. Notice that he is ""Missing"" isolates her in hate and aloneness, until, in St. Patrick's Cathedral, she finds the shrine of St. Andrew deserted and adopts him as her friend. Once again she finds color in life, with ""someone"" to talk to. Illness keeps her away -- but in her first clear moment she tries to make amends, and bring him candles. In the rain, she sees and hears once more her soldier sweetheart -- and is found dead, clasping the little Roman coin she had given him when he went abroad.
