by Ben Lucien Burman ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 11, 1977
A dry little fable about rebellion and renewal featuring those old Mississippi comrades Doc Raccoon, J. C. Fox, and Judge Black (snake). This time (the first in eleven years) the generation gap has finally come to Catfish Bend: the younger frogs refuse to sing Adeline and opt instead for life in California's Paradise Valley--you know, the grass is always greener. Led by a hesitant Doc Raccoon, young and old set out, enduring assorted hardships, ultimately--inevitably--splintering into factions. En route they meet other dissatisfied creatures including a repentant snake (now vegetarian), a bulldog with charge privileges, and the eagle from the silver dollar; some succumb to sickness, the elements, or hungry alligators; they try loco-weed, struggle through Death Valley, and reach the promised land. But of course those greener pastures are parched and bare, and the hapless band becomes the prey of a contemptuous panther, a pair of wildcats, and a host of buzzards until Doc Raccoon organizes those remaining. Together they scare off the panther, hoodwink the humans, and hitch back to Mississippi. Those who've stopped at the Bend before will recognize the scenery and appreciate the views, but while Treason has its reasons, they won't put Catfish Bend on the map.
