Later when a local band of reserves- the Rock River Rangers, are formed to fight Black Hawk, Joel joins, fights too and further earns his right to a piece of land- a reward made possible also by his growing sense of family and community responsibility. Nils Hogner has done distinctive drawings for a steady story that betters the average run.
