This is one of those illusive books, difficult to characterize or to group -- by category or age level. Its potential success is wholly dependent on the presentation given by an adult, who should be imaginative, sensitive, appreciative. And the young audience should be composed of children aware of beauty, quick to capture magic on their own. The theme, there are houses everywhere, all kinds, for all forms of life, from bad children to good children, from an arrogant mouse who wants a house of cheese to houses of flowers and stars and lightening. Much of the material will demand explanations. Let's hope they aren't too literal in their expositions.
