by Benjamin Capps ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
This is a superior, non-melodramatic western about a trail drive along the Chisholm Trail. Billy Scott, 28, wild with pride because he is about to have his first crack at being trail boss, finds himself just another hired hand when his rancher dies and the widow hires Colonel Kittredge, a Bible thumping martinet, as trail boss. The author gives each character among the cowhands a sober, rounded background, loads each interlude with trail lore, and thoroughly reveals the nature of cattle, terrain, and the motives of cowboys.
