by Benjamin Graham ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 25, 1949
Not a breviary, but an intelligent, informed (the author heads an Investment Fund and is a Lecturer in Finance at Columbia's School of Business) appraisal of certain types of investment programs. Believing that a secure rather than speculative (or quickly lucrative) position is available to everyone, and that strong continuity underlies the pattern of financial change, this book is intended for the investor who wishes to conserve his capital, obtain a reasonable return, and protect himself against inflation. An appropriate portfolio policy; types of stocks and bonds to buy; attitudes to take during market fluctuations; the defensive, aggressive or entertaining investor; U. S. Saving Bonds, the most important (and the best) security issued in this country; analysis of your securities; the margin-of-safety concept; etc. etc. these and many other points are discussed in some detail, and with practical applications of the case in point. An excellent job, for the man in the street.
