ACTING ON THE WORD

This latest book of Haring's is intended chiefly for the men and women vowed to the religious life; indeed, many of the chapters were previously delivered as lectures to groups of priests and nuns. Therefore, while the spiritual principles that the author enunciates are applicable equally in the life of the layman, the development of the material is aimed at the putting into practice, at the everyday level of religious life, of the spiritual commandments of the Bible. Most of the thirteen chapters, consequently, deal with the spiritual life within the framework of poverty, chastity, obedience, the obligations of conventual life, etc. The book is excellent Haring, of course, but the nature of its material will prevent its attaining the popularity, say, of this author's Sacramental Spirituality or Christian Renewal. It is almost exclusively for the libraries of religious houses.
