MORRIS AND BORIS

Boris the Bear and Morris the Moose are occupied in these three encounters with some riddles, a tongue twister and a hide and seek game respectively, and if the stories don't extend children's view of friendship as do the best of this easy reading genre, they make the jokes, pastimes and cartoon figures a lot funnier than they would be in a straight riddle book. Repeatedly, innocent Morris fails to understand the rules of Boris' games, but there is always a kind of literal sense to his inappropriate response; his ""wrong"" answers to the riddles are funnier than the correct ones and when it's his turn to ask he infuriates Boris by revising the questions to suit himself. ""Oh, you don't know how to do anything,"" Boris roars in the end, but when a bird reminds him that Morris ""can make you angry"" all three exit laughing. Chances are new readers will join them.
