This is a favorite daydream, the tight, loyal band of boys whose combined efforts astound everyone else--in this case the town's citizens, the windbag mayor, a stuffy professor, and even a rival club. The boys go to great lengths for a gag, enjoy making clowns of the local leaders, but just to show that they really are not delinquent they end up with a feat of heroism. The distinctive feature of this club is its members' technical skill. Following through on Henry Mulligan's imagination and brain power they combine to produce amazing things in their laboratory -- they build a sea monster, discover a dinosaur egg, solve a bank robbery, create a flying man, and invent a new type of flying balloon. The description of lab procedures may intrigue some boys, probably more than the burlesque humor.
