A family story from Hans Andersen's country has a satisfying theme and a well written narrative as it tells how the Holbeks found happiness. Anna, Knud and Eric, who live with their widowed Mor in Kerteminde on Fyn, are surprised when they meet a stranger on the way home from school one winter's day. The stranger seems to know all about them. But try as they do on successive meetings, the children are unable to find out who this stranger that they like better and better actually is. Through the meetings, Mor herself is increasingly interested, and secretive, until the stranger reveals himself as their dead father's cousin in a happy and surprising climax. The Danish seaside and the custom of storks bringing luck add to reading pleasure.
