Inside a storage closet, a small girl changes form with the help of ordinary things--a polka dot skirt makes her a butterfly, a pillow and a candy cane make her a great white whale. The brown and white woodcuts varied with cherry or wheat are static and the child not very appealing; the verse With sometime rhyme and always' refrain is choppy and awkward (hats..sack, box...dots, ""And a BUTTERFLY I am at last!"") Unenchanting.
