Remembered for her personal credo, And Now To Live Again (Appleton), rton has written this novel, derived from her experiences, and set in a hospit of war casualties, who may- or may not- walk again. Stressed here is the psychological adjustment as well as physical cure, the positive will as again negative defeatism to which almost all are victims. There are the men:- Mac, and cynical; Bud, who doesn't want the faithful, faith-giving love of Ellen alone accepts his injury, even to death. There are the doctors -- and Janet, of the use of her legs in civilian life serves as precept for the men. In sometimes sentimental, but at all times aware of the spiritual sustenant counteract individual suffering, this will reach a somewhat defined market of its particular message. As a novel, per se, it is not fully realized.
