FLY HOMER FLY

Another plug for country air and tranquility as Homer the farm pigeon, spurred by Sparky the Mammoth City sparrow, penetrates the smog and the web of power lines to reach Pigeon Plaza where, alas, it's ""every bird for himself;"" he stands up to a bushy-feathered bully and outflies the ""out of shape"" city pigeons but a wrecking ball dumps him and he's down with a broken wing. How to make it back to safety on the farm? Just as Homer's about to be felled by an alley cat, Sparky (who has a spark of big city savvy) swoops down with a coat hanger propelled by some of his mates. Together they carry the crippled Homer back to recovery in the barn, then accept his invitation to remain. It keeps moving, that's for sure, and as usual Mr. Peet is quick with a quip (the pigeon-lift is a ""sparrow-plane"" -- or ""an airplane hanger""); but where it's going we've been before and it's in the opposite direction from most kids.
