A nostalgic tale for the children who ask: ""What was it like when you were a child"". Two tomboys in South Georgia found haven from adults and arbored delight perched on the wide branches of a mimosa. From a pecan tree to a chinaberry, the eight year olds strung a wire. This served as a track, for the girls dispatched fruit, messages and trinkets to each other via a moving box (memories of Jack and Jill perhaps?) They evaded the pestering of the smaller children in a loquat tree. And now- grown up and looking back on their tree days with wistfulness, they recall them for little girls of their own, in the bustle of today's activities. Author-illustrator Bobby Snow Boal, invests these slender memories with humor and understanding and today's eight year olds will find themselves again in the chatty prose and splashy sketches. Brief- and easy reading.
