A BORDERLINE CASE

The unlikely murder of the 104 year old Countess Maria Iturbide de Salazar leads the inquisitive Monk Dexter, of the Los Angeles Chronicle, into a maze of Mexican history and a perilous love affair with the Countess' great granddaughter. Discovery of the Countess' family secret and the lure of a fortune in jewels which had once belonged to the unhappy Carlota take the reckless pair on a devious route which ends in the Castle of Chapultepec. A tidy and deft handling of the chase (and of the historically speculative) which manages to compensate for the plot's improbabilities.
