by Bruce Catton ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 5, 1954
An excellent one-volume biography against an analysis of military tradition, in which Catton does much to correct the picture of Grant that has been handed down. He shows him as speedy, brilliant and determined and while admitting of his weaknesses in the White House, points up the dilemmas already extant- striking in his biography a happy balance in assesing both the soldier and the man.
