SARAH'S UNICORN

Sarah lives with her aunt, a good witch turned bad by a spell; and the unicorn that appears in the clearing, takes Sarah for rides, and introduces her to the other forest animals brings joy to an otherwise miserable life. It also turns the bad witch good again, after a little scuffle that ensues when the witch follows Sarah and tries to chop off the animal's horn for her spells. The soft black-and-white illustrations give the goings-on some visual resonance (though the bad witch is a lot more effective than the nice bits); otherwise the story's only distinction is that it brings a fluttery, knee-jerk approach to fantasy (if it's a unicorn, it's got to be wonderful) down to the easy-reading level.
