A scientific novel -- by which I mean, a novel so closely interweaving science and plot that one feels, at the close, that it is rather an adventure of the mind than a conventional story. The theme is the conflict between the adventure of research and the adventure of living, and the story is of a young scientist who sacrificed his early life to his passion for science, only to find it a hard mistress and one that failed to satisfy him, wholly. The final touch is his gesture of reconciliation between science and humanity. A book that should be called to the attention of men interested in science, and that they will thank you for recommending.
