Once again an author-artist who has collectors' value makes a winning story out of slim and familiar material. Hurricane, a colt who escapes from a fire at the Albemarle stables, is found after a winter among the deer, by sixteen year old Stephen Slade who had recently lost his own pony. With the help of Mr. Marshall and the kindness of Mrs. Albemarle, Stephen keeps and trains Hurricane and has the growing delight of realizing the horse is a natural jumper. Though his chances for the Fox Hill cup are ridiculed and endangered by a stray dog, Stephen on Hurricane wins easily. The value lies in the proper training and faith the story expresses.
