This is a friendly, informative book for the young enthusiast. The wide choice of basic facts and bits of colorful specialized knowledge and human interest make this a new and good idea successfully carried out. The demand for young fact books is universal. Here's the step beyond the sugar-coated picture story books in a really meaty fact book for seven and eight and nine year olds. There are the men who do each job as well as the many jobs to be done, from track laying to story telling in the de luxe trains. Railroad lore, railroad information, vividly illustrated with spot drawings by Jeanne Bendick, reproduced in color. Brightly colored cloth binding and colorful jacket make this good merchandise as well as good library and school appeal. Lots of text for the inquiring young mind. Good clear type. This launches a new series which will include revised editions of First Book of Boats and First Flying Book and many others.
