The story behind Perry's victory on Lake Erie -- a satisfactory historical recreation of the men and work preceding the famous report:- ""We have met the enemy and they are cure....""Young Child, apprenticed in Connecticut to a shipyard, year as for freedom, money and Mary, turns down Perry's recruiting offer, and boards a privateer for the prise money. Fear and an uneasy conscience drive him away from this ""easy path"" to riches, and he joins Mosh Brown and his small company of shipbuilders bound for Presque Iele, and there realises the tremendous challenge of the struggle against time, obstacles of provisioning, lack of man, and puts his ingenuity into the job. But it takes news that Mary and her father have been captured by the British to rouse his patriotism, and he sees it through. Interesting parallels with today's legs, today's problems.
